For the past 13 years, Donita has had the privilege of serving in Leander ISD, with the last four years as the district’s Substitute Recruiter. Her career in education has given me a unique perspective on substitute management, with experience on both the campus and district HR sides.

Before moving into HR, Donita served as an instructional assistant and administrative assistant at both the middle school and high school levels. In those roles, she worked closely with substitutes every day - coordinating schedules, supporting classroom coverage, and helping substitutes feel like an important part of the campus staff. Those firsthand experiences gave her a strong understanding of the day-to-day challenges and needs of both campuses and substitutes.
Prior to her career in education, she gained recruiting experience at Dell Computers, building a foundation in talent acquisition and customer service that has continued to shape my work today.

Now, as a Substitute Recruiter, Donita brings together her campus experience, recruiting background, and knowledge of district operations to focus on recruiting, supporting, engaging, and retaining quality substitutes. She is passionate about creating a positive substitute experience and finding innovative ways to strengthen substitute programs so they can better support teachers, campuses, and ultimately our students.
Donita is excited to bring this perspective to the Substitute Management Advisory Council and learn alongside other leaders in the field while contributing to the continued growth and success of substitute programs.
